Backpacking is very different than going for a hike. Hiking is normally considered for a day trip or for several days as part of a camping trip where hiking takes a unique way each day, but typically ending up back at the camp at the end of every day. On the other hand, backpacking often demands heading out in one way from a base camp, possibly even the home, and staying out for a day or more exploring new areas that are not accessed by vehicles.

Since You are on the Backpacking trail, carrying all needed supplies in a backpack, the size of the load will depend on the length of the trip as well as what the hiker considers necessary for their journey. It does not matter how long you plan to be out backpacking, you want to bring water with you. Canvas Tent

By Karen Dreyer

Have you ever felt stifled by the closed confines of the concrete jungle? Well, if you have, then it is probably high time for you to pack your bags and go camping. There's really nothing that compares to a journey to the great outdoors. It's exciting, it's refreshing, and most of all, it's a time when families can bond. However, even when you commune with Mother Earth, you very well can't use the starry night sky as your only roof, especially if you brought your children with you. You don't want to be caught in the rain, especially in these times. So, it's much better if you bring a canvas tent along.

What is a Canvas Tent?

A Canvas Tent is simply a tent that is constructed by draping a canvas over a framework of poles and ropes. If you want a proper idea of what a canvas tent is, do imagine the barracks of those who enlist for the army. Or, if you like, you could try to think about the large tents that the circus workers use when they set up their business in the city, at least temporarily. Of course, the ones used in camping are hardly that big. In fact, they're usually only big enough to accommodate one or two people.

What is a Canvas Tent Made of?

The material used for canvas tents may differ greatly, especially in terms of the cloth. The most usual material used is cotton. This is a great material, as it is very strong and it is also water resistant. However, sometimes, manufacturers utilize other cloths such as polyester, nylon, and felt. The choice between these three materials depends wholly on the type of climate you expect to use you tent in. But it's generally better to just stick with cotton as it is the most dynamic.

What are the Features of a Canvas Tent?

When choosing a canvas tent, you must also consider its various features. Most importantly, consider how water resistant it is. There is a rating system used for this. The more water resistant a tent is, the more pricey it commonly is. So, before you buy, determine the kind of climate you're going to use the tent in most of the time. Another consideration is the presence of windows. There are usually open windows that allow sufficient air to enter the tent. It is, however, better to pick the ones with mesh windows, as this will keep the mosquitoes out. - 31517

By Karen Dreyer

Have you ever had those moments when you're outdoors, either watching baseball or simply just lounging around in the park, and then you legs start cramping and you feel the need to sit down, only, when you look, there's no chair in sight? Frustrating, isn't it? Well, fortunately for us, we can now bring chairs with us anytime and anywhere. Camping chairs are handy chairs which are usually used in the outdoors. There are many different types of chairs that suit the preferences of different people. To know which one's best for you, you should first look at your preferences.

Traditional Camping Chair

The traditional camping chair is light, easy to bring, and very practical. It's the most balanced kind of camping chair and it will surely give you the best value for your money in the long run, mainly because you can use it for just about anything.

Camping Lounge Chair

If you don't need portability or if you simply need your comfort more than anything else, then it might be better if you purchase a camping lounge chair. Camping lounge chairs allow you to stretch your legs a little bit, almost as if you were sitting in your easy chair back home. It's perfect for those relaxing days spent at the beach, with a nice book as your only company, and also for those days when you go to the lake and you're simply just resting at the port. Camping lounge chairs do fold, however they can get rather weighty. They're not at all ideal for backpacking or for other such strenuous activities.

Reclining Camping Chairs

If a traditional camping chair does not fit your taste and if the camping lounge chair seems to be a bit too much, then why not try buying the reclining camping chair? It's a cross between the two extremes and is extremely practical, especially if you like to do several various activities.

Double Camping Chair

Another option is to purchase the double camping chair. As its name implies, this type of chair can seat two people. It's the outdoors brother of the love seat. It's perfect to use if you have a companion with you. You can pick from the basic kind of the double camping chair, wherein 'cuddling' is made possible. However, if you're more of a practical sort, you can pick the one with an armrest in the center. At times, the armrest also contains some pockets or drink holders. - 31517

Camping Tent

By Karen Dreyer

If you ever find yourself getting bogged down by the mundane activities of everyday life, why don't you pack your belongings and go camping? There's really nothing more exciting than to sleep in the woods, with only a flimsy tent as your defense against the elements. It's a great way to cleanse yourself, to forget the stresses of the draining city life at least for a while. But camping itself is not an easy feat. There are several things that you must put into consideration, especially in taking care of your camping tent.

Always go for "Practical"

Sometimes, the most practical tents are also the ones that are least aesthetically pleasing. But truly, when you go camping, I can assure you that aesthetics is the last thing you'll be looking for. You will want a tent that is large enough to keep you and your companions. Spacious tents are especially useful if you have a lot of items with you, as you can't just leave your things outside while you sleep within your tent. Also, go for the tent that's easy to set up, no matter how simple or unglamorous it looks. Believe me, once you get to your camping site, you'll want nothing more than to just rest. And the fact that you will have a fancy tent to set up will bog down your spirits.

Accessorize Your Tent

Another matter that will aid you if you decide to go camping is to accessorize your camping tent. Purchase some inflatable mattresses or some sleeping bags so that you'll be more comfortable in the evenings. The tent might give you warmth, but it won't make you any more comfortable without a mattress.

Protection from Mosquitoes

One of the worst things about camping is the presence of mosquitoes. You can be sure that they will bother you when you go camping. And really, they can destroy your camping trip thoroughly if you let them. There is a way to keep them out, however, and that is to spray your tent with insecticide. The smell will keep these pests out.

Location is Everything

Another matter that you have to take note of is the location where you put your tent. It's most useful if you place your tent at higher ground in case it pours. Furthermore, if it does rain, be sure to let your tent dry before you pack it so that it doesn't get mildew. Also, be sure that you don't put your tent too close to the fire. You can never be sure that the wind will pick up and send a few embers over to your tent, causing a horrible fire. It's always better to be safe rather than sorry. - 31517

Canopies

By Karen Dreyer

Canopies, as we all know, acts just like a roof that covers a part outside of the home. Canopies are usually installed along the windows and doors of a home, and canopies protect their frames from extreme weather conditions like rainy days and very hot summers. Canopies are also installed outside to cover the exterior patio of the house.

In general, you will see that canopies can save you a lot of money that you would otherwise have used up on refurbishing your home, but there are some things that you have to take note of before installing canopies.

The Materials of the Canopies

The most integral feature that you have to thing of is the material of the canopies, especially since there are a lot to choose from. There are aluminum canopies which are perfect to provide your patio a shade, and then there are also fabric canopies which also protects you from the sun, but not from the rain.

Aluminum canopies are much preferred because it has the lowest maintenance costs yet provides the greatest strength. In fact, it is the most durable of all types of canopies. One setback though is that aluminum canopies do not have varied colors. On the other hand, fabric canopies are much more classy, especially since they come in an assortment of designs, designs, shape, and colors. But there are some disadvantages to fabric canopies. One, they need a lot of maintenance, and two, they cannot provide protection against the rain.

The Types of Canopies

There are different types of canopies. There are adjustable canopies which you can simply pull out during the summer season and then fold up when wintertime comes. This type of canopies is suitable not only for houses but for small shops and small shops as well since they do not have enough space to install fixed canopies. When it comes to adjustable canopies though, you still have to select between automatic canopies where you need only to push a button and the canopies will fold or the manual canopies where you have to make use of a rod to control the action of the canopies.

The other kind of canopies is, naturally, the fixed canopies. These canopies are also perfect for homes, especially those homes with outdoor patios.

Of the two though, the one preferred by consumers is the automatic canopies.

So, if you need to glam up your patio and protect it from the sun and rain, then canopies are the best thing that you can utilize. - 31517

Camping Trailer

By Karen Dreyer

Camping trailers are just about the best items to have if you want to go to the great outdoors. Simply park them on a clearing inside a thick forest and you'll have your own haven of civilization amidst the wilderness. They're huge comforts when you are camping, as they can provide you with a comfortable bed, a kitchen, and most importantly, a bath room. However, camping trailers can be quite pricey, especially the brand new ones. And, usually, you don't really require any of those fancy features they provide for the newer models. You don't usually want to give up a huge portion of your savings just to purchase something you'll need only about once or twice annually. So, the most practical thing you can really do is to buy a used camping trailer.

Classified Ads

The first place you need to go to in order to look for a used camping trailer is the classified ads. Usually, people would advertise if they have any used trailers there. Purchases are usually cheaper. But, you're probably going to buy from a private seller, which makes the information about the trailer a bit unstable. It's not that they would fib about it, it's just that a private seller lacks the expertise of those companies that really sell trailers. Be careful that you don't get duped, though, and check meticulously for any hidden defects.

Banks

Banks are also wonderful places to go to if you're looking for second-hand camping trailers. What's great about banks is that, unlike private sellers, they're not selling because a trailer has defects. They're merely selling those things that they repossessed, probably because the owner was unable to complete paying for it. And because of this, the camping trailers are often in good condition. And, usually, you'll find yourself paying a small amount for a very good trailer at the bank's expense, and only because the bank does not want to store it anymore.

Government Auctions

The best thing about government auctions is that very few people think about using them. And this is a good thing for the government, simply because there will be fewer people to bid, and fewer hassle. If you see a nice trailer, usually repossessed, you might want to place a bid. Do not worry about paperwork or things like that, it will be really easy, almost as simple as placing a bid on ebay. - 31517

Kids Sleeping Bags

By Karen Dreyer

Camping is an activity that is made even more fun when the children are brought along. They add vitality and fun to any camping trip, because to them, a lot of things are new. However, because of this, you must take extra care to make sure they are comfortable, or else you might find yourself trying to appease some bad-tempered children who complain incessantly. And to do this, you must pick the right kids sleeping bag. There are many factors that you need to take note of when choosing the right kids sleeping bag. But before that, accept first that, no matter how much the seller might try to convince you, you do not need the best sleeping bags for children. It's safe to bet that you won't be taking your kids along if you ever decide to try climbing Mount Everest. So, when buying kids sleeping bags, you can save a bit of money just by considering these factors.

Down vs. Synthetic

Down Sleeping bags are the ones with a stuffing of feathers. These are the best insulators, and are usually far more expensive than the synthetic sleeping bags. Down sleeping bags are, of course, of the topmost quality. But then again, your kids probably won't need it that much. Furthermore, down sleeping bags are more troublesome to take care of, especially since they are weightier and harder to maintain. Synthetic bags are also less difficult to wash. All in all, it's better to just stick to the cheaper, more practical synthetic sleeping bags if it's for your kids. However, if you really have to buy a down sleeping bag for your children, make it a wise investment and buy one that your child won't outgrow too quickly.

Features

Another thing that you have to put into consideration is the presence of different features. Does the sleeping bag have a hood, a draft tube, and a draft collar? You must make sure that, if it does get drafty, none of the draft will be able to get inside the sleeping bag. The child must be kept warm during the night so that he does not catch a cold. And, since we lose much of our body heat through our heads, then the hood is of prime importance. Furthermore, try looking for a bag that does not have any long cords so that they won't get tangled up.

Finally, give your kids a treat and bring them along when you go shopping, then let them pick their own designs. It will be incredibly fun for them, and well worth your time. - 31517
